A great way to see the South Australian outback at it’s most interesting is to ‘do’ the Outback Loop.
Starting at Lyndhurst, the Outback Loop itinerary will take you to Marree and then up the famous Birdsville Track to Birdsville. From there, the return trip via the Cordillo Downs Road delivers you to Innamincka. It’s then down the Strzelecki Track past Moomba back to Lyndhurst.
The Outback Loop takes travellers on a historic and cultural tour across the ever-changing landscape of the South Australian and Queensland outback including homesteads, ruins, historic and significant landmarks, along with the natural phenomenon of the area’s beautiful lakes systems, rivers, creeks, deserts, salt pans, gibber plains, and more.
If time permits, there are infinite variations to the Outback Loop where your itinerary can be expanded to include other iconic South Australian outback towns such as Port Augusta, Wilpena Pound (in the majestic Flinders Ranges), Arkaroola, Coober Pedy, Oodnadatta and William Creek.
